Listen to 90.0 WBUR in Boston’s profile of “Sisters in War”:

In her new book, “Sisters in War,” journalist Christina Asquith profiles Zia and Nunu, two Iraqi sisters whom Christina met while covering the second Gulf War. Initially hopeful about the fall of Saddam Hussein, Zia goes to work as a translator in the American-fortified Green Zone, and Nunu continues her academic studies. But over the years, the sisters’ lives become both constricted and endangered. Christina interweaves the sisters’ stories with those of women aid workers, both military and civilian, to show how the occupation of Iraq has affected women
